ASOFAI to become HBO series

From GRRM's site:

Home Box Office (HBO) has acquired an option on the television and film rights to my fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, in hopes of bringing the story to television as an original, ongoing HBO series. We have been working out the details for months, but the deal is finally done and the pieces are in place, so it's official.

The series is slated to begin in 2009 and they have a projected completion date for the ASOFAI novels - 2011. While this is still years away, knowing the end is in sight has to be a relief to GRRM. Also, knowing that HBO will be wanting the next three books has to give fans a rush, becuase this has to move the series to the top of GRRM's priority list.

It's scary how much I'm looking forward to this series. Especially since HBO's doing it and has gotten pretty much every series it's done up to this point right. Rome is unbelievably good. I am worried about how long they'll make it. This needs to be a series with a season for each book. And I'm really wondering if they'll do anything with "The Hedge Knight".

It would be awesome if they did "The Hedge Knight" and "The Sworn Sword" short stories as a couple of teaser minis leading up to AGOT.

The only problem with that would be what happened to me.... I read Hedge Knight first really liked it so picked up A Game of Thrones....then spent 200 pages wondering when Dunk was going to show up. I kept waiting and waiting.
